Leadership Iowa University​a program of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation, is designed for student-leaders currently attending a college or university in Iowa. The program seeks to cultivate and develop our state’s future workforce by providing them with the knowledge, tools and inspiration they need to work toward their personal goals and build successful futures as engaged Iowa leaders.
 

​Leadership Iowa University provides eye-opening experiences for student participants, and allows them to discover many different aspects of our state and the opportunities that make Iowa a great place to live and work. Participation in Leadership Iowa University includes:

  • August Session:  This one-week session is focal point of Leadership Iowa University. Throughout the week, students take part in a variety of interactive experiences focused on personal and professional development, education about Iowa issues and industries, and much more. Participants have several opportunities to meet and learn from top Iowa professionals from a variety of fields and backgrounds. The week takes place in Des Moines and surrounding areas. The 2017 August session will be August 6 - 10.
     
  • YPIowa Conference:  Participants will have the opportunity to attend the Young Professionals of Iowa Conference in September of 2017. Each year, the YPIowa Conference is a can't-miss event for young professionals in our state, and is a full day schedule including dynamic break-out sessions, top-notch speakers and fantastic networking opportunities.
     
  • Mentorship:  Students participating in Leadership Iowa University also have a unique opportunity to work with a mentor who is currently working in the student's career field of interest. Mentors are seasoned Iowa professionals who donate their time to meet with student participants throughout their school year and assist by providing guidance, direction and awareness of opportunities to students as they continue on their college and career path.


Highlights from the 2016 year include: 

  • A morning spent at the Capitol talking with professionals who work in state government and a behind-the-scenes tour
  • A trip to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to learn about diverse opportunities in smaller communities
  • Networking receptions in Ames and at Tassle Ridge Winery
  • A day spent downtown Des Moines to learn about the exciting things happening in the capitol city and round tables with business professionals and CEO's
  • The Young Professionals of Iowa annual conference, complete with excellent speakers and break-out sessions
  • A morning spent at an advertising agency to discuss brand awareness and create fun videos
  • Networking opportunities with over 150 young and business professionals from Iowa
  • So much more...
