Class of 2009-10
Alex Frescoln
University of Iowa

My name is Alex Frescoln, and I am a Junior at the University of Iowa. I am double majoring in Finance and History, for now. I have changed my major in the realm of five times, starting out in Biomedical Engineering, then Industrial Engineering, then Genetics, and have eventually come to the conclusion that I am at now. My extracurricular activities at the University of Iowa include: Craig A. Baird Public Policy debate, Dance Marathon, and I am the House Manager for Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. I grew up in Norwalk, IA which is just south of Des Moines.
Three years ago I attended Business Horizons, and I found it to be a very worthwhile program. It expanded my interests and opened my eyes to the numerous opportunities within Iowa. When I was asked to attend Leadership Iowa University I knew that it would be even more beneficial than Business Horizons, because it is catered to College Students, and therefore would have information of a higher caliber. I have been seeking a career path for the last seven years; to no avail. My hope is that Leadership Iowa University will give me a better idea about opportunities pertaining to Iowa industries, business, law, etc. There will be more contacts available to me through networking, which might lead me down a path that will help me to live a fulfilling life. My interests have always been very diverse, and my hope is that LIU will narrow my focus by finding something that I am truly passionate about, or by finding me a battle that I am willing to fight. (i.e. saving the Bio-fuel sector, or developing more efficient logistics chains for Iowa Industries.) There is a whole world of opportunities out there, I just need help figuring out which ones to follow, and how to go about capitalizing on them. Hopefully this week will accomplish all of these goals.
