Agriculture & Innovation

"ReINVENTing Iowa"

The theme of today was "ReINVENTing Iowa" - College of Agriculture and Innovation.  If you could write about atleast three of the five following topics:

1) Share your thoughts on examples of how activities in Iowa affect the worlds food supply chain
2) What are some of the examples of how the presenters from today stay up to date on changes happening in their industry (books, blogs, magazines, trade publications, email, radio, others?)?
3) Due to the ongoing innovation ocurring in Iowa, what are some examples of what agriculture in Iowa looks like in 10 years or 25 years from today?
4) What is an example of a trade association that would directly align with your desired profession in the future?
5) Any final thoughts and/or lessons learned from the simulation exercise?

The most obvious factor affecting Iowan food output, and thus that of the world, is the weather. If the weather is bad and reduces yields, food could be scarce in many parts of the world. Price fluxuations will also affect how much farmers plant and harvest and how much the...

It was interesting to hear about how business leaders stay up to date on changes that happen within their industry. That is a side of the business aspect that I have never really taken into consideration, but it makes complete sense to keep up on that because news within their...

The simulation was a great chance to practice real-life business decisions. I thought it was an excellent competition and a great way to develop skills. Whether or not we go directly into business, these skills will be necessary to personal finances. An excellent example of a trade association for me...
