"UnEARTHing Iowa"
Today has been a really meaningful and enjoyable day for me. Although I am not very interested in politics, it was very pleasant to get to know the local governors and to know more about the state of Iowa. I was very surprised to see that all the governors are actually really friendly and are also interested in talking with us and getting to know us. This is something I barely experience in China. However, the most memorable experience of today started from the visit of the Pella Incorporate. From this visit, the biggest thing that I learned was to appreciate your life and always be willing to improve. I saw all the workers in the plant were very diligent and focused on their tasks, but most importantly they were all happy about what they are doing. I also found there was a board in the plant posting all the open jobs or other opportunities in the company for all the workers in the plant. Later, I was told by our tour guide that the company is very thankful to have all these dedicated workers who appreciate the job opportunities give by Pella, and furthermore, these workers are also very self-motivated, willing to take on bigger roles in the company to better themselves as well as the company as a whole. This makes me think that nowadays, in our society, there are many people who are always complaining about their jobs, relationships, and lives. They seldom think about all the opportunities they have been given and there are many other people who are way worse off needing to be helped. I strongly realize that we need to start appreciating the lives that we are having, and all the great things we have been offered by others or by the society. And moreover, we shouldn’t stop making effort to improve ourselves so that we can one day provide happiness for others who really need help.
