Government and Growth in Iowa

Anna Bergman

My dream job would be working as a Corporate Lawyer for a large company like Principal Financial. Of course, as a lawyer, legal issues would directly impact the work I am doing. I would only be directly impacted by manufacturing if I worked as a lawyer for a large manufacturer. Working for Principal Financial, I would not collide with manufacturing issues on a day-to-day basis. Like all other Iowans, I would be affected if manufacturing destroyed or modified the economy.

The simulation today was challenging in that it required excellent time management skills. Those skills are important in every career. Above that, the business simulation targeted skills that would be essential as an adult in the Iowa work force.

It was interesting to find out the impact that pretty much every facet of the Iowa economy will effect all of the others. I felt that being a marketing and economics major I wouldn't be affected by many of the jobs/industries that aren't as much business related, but in all reality they all affect each other and it seems that we will have to know a little bit about everything.
