College of Human Resources - YOU!
Blaise Mikels
I became a part of Leadership Iowa University through being employed in the department of residence life at Simpson College and being part of the dorm staff during Business Horizons 2010. Since I have recently eclipsed the midway point of my undergraduate education, I have been considering different possible career paths for after graduation. While I am confident that I want a job that involves heavy use of my skills in mathematics, I am very unsure of specific careers to pursue. My hope in applying and being accepted into this program is to gain more direction and guidance through talking with different business professionals during the week.
Before arriving to the hotel for the commencement of this leadership experience, I was trying to imagine what the upcoming week would entail. I expected meetings and some sort of large group project (as I knew students in Business Horizons had participated in). I was also excited about the idea of meeting new people. I thoroughly enjoyed the strengths finder assessment and evaluation that took place. I enjoy reading about the skills and talents that I have and how they can be applied in a work setting. I also thought it was neat to find how my weaknesses are the strengths of so many others and how both are necessary for a successful work environment. I am looking forward to meeting many business professionals and learning about the paths they have taken to reach their positions.

It was interesting to meet someone from my neck of the woods, and I completely agree about finding our strengths and weaknesses and how they apply to everyday life.
